Susannah specialises in financial crime compliance, regulatory and investigations work. She advises corporates, financial institutions and professional services firms in connection with sanctions, anti-money laundering, corruption, fraud and related issues, both contentious and non-contentious.

A recognised expert, Susannah has been ranked in band 1 for Corporate Crime in Chambers UK 2013-2019, described as having ‘extraordinary knowledge and ability’, ‘a very steadying presence’, ‘technically superb’, ‘a true expert in her field’, and ‘a “talented” and “astute lawyer”, who “knows what corporate clients need”’.  Legal 500 UK 2016-2019 rank Susannah as a Leading Individual for Regulatory Investigations and Corporate Crime, and recommend her for sanctions advice in their Trade, WTO and Customs specialism (‘Cogman has particular expertise in sanctions work in relation to Iran, Russia, Syria and Libya’) and for Corporate Governance (‘Cogman is a name to note for corporate crime compliance and investigations’).

Susannah was appointed as one of the UK’s first anti-corruption monitors for the purposes of Oxford University Press’s settlement with the World Bank and the UK Serious Fraud Office.  Susannah speaks and publishes widely on sanctions, anti-money laundering and anti-corruption sanctions topics.  She is a member of the UK Law Society’s Money Laundering Task Force, the City of London Law Society Corporate Crime Committee, and the ICC UK Corporate Responsibility and Anti-Corruption Committee.  Susannah is a consultant editor of the Lloyds Law Reports: Financial Crime series.  In April 2014, Global Investigations Review named Susannah in their list of ‘40 Under 40 – the world’s leading investigations specialists’.

Susannah’s experience includes advising a number of international energy and extractive companies and global financial institutions in respect of all aspects of financial crime compliance, including sanctions (e.g., in relation to compliance policies, due diligence, sanctions licensing, internal and external investigations).  She has advised extensively on the sanctions regimes applicable in relation to Russia/Ukraine, Iran, Syria and Libya, amongst others.
