EU removes FARC from terrorism listing
The EU Council has removed Colombian guerrilla group the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (‘FARC’) from its list of sanctioned terrorist organisations (13 November).
FARC, the largest rebel group in Colombia, was first designated as a terrorist organisation by the EU in 2001. The EU suspended its sanctions against the group in September 2016, following the signing of a peace treaty between FARC and the Colombian government, ending a 50-year conflict. FARC is now reinvented as a political party, the Alternative Revolutionary Force of the People.
