EU re-issues ‘terrorist list’

The European Council (‘EC’) has renewed its so-called EU terrorist list, which lists ‘persons, groups and entities subject to restrictive measures with a view to combating terrorism’.

An EC spokesperson told WorldECR that ‘the list currently in force is confirmed’ with ‘no new additions’.

Those on the list can have their European financial assets frozen, and EU operators cannot deal with them financially or economically, directly or indirectly.

First issued in 2001 after the September 11 terror attack, the list implements UN Security Council (‘UNSC’) Resolution 1373’s anti-terrorist measures. The list represents a separate sanctions regime from the EU regime which implements UNSC resolutions 1267 (2011), 1989 (2011) and 2253 (2015) and targets Al Qaida and ISIL/Da’esh.

According to the EC, the list is reviewed regularly and at least every six months. The previous version was issued in August 2019.
