UN humanitarian exemptions apply to UK sanctions
UN humanitarian exemptions also apply to UK sanctions regimes, Foreign Office Minister of State Stephen Doughty has clarified.
‘The exception applies to the UK’s 7 UN sanctions regimes and 12 mixed UN and UK autonomous sanctions regimes,’ he said on 6 September in response to a parliamentary question.
‘Our UK regimes include humanitarian provisions including licensing grounds and exceptions to support humanitarian assistance, whether that be to a specific entity, or via a General Licence,’ he explained.
The UN’s humanitarian exemption was adopted by Resolution 2664 in December 2022.
