ECJU ‘LITE’: new online service for export licences
The Export Control Joint Unit (‘ECJU’) of the UK’s Department for Business and Trade (‘DBT’) has announced the launch of the first service on its new online system, LITE, through which exporters can now apply for a standard individual export licence (‘SIEL’).
The new ‘Apply for a SIEL’ service transitions away from the current SPIRE system.
‘Any exporter, minus some exceptions, can now register on LITE using the SIEL registration link,’ the notice states. Exporters who participated in the private beta can continue using their accounts through the new link or any saved links.
However, certain exceptions apply to specific exporters or types of SIEL applications.
‘Where an exception applies, you should apply for your SIEL on SPIRE,’ the notice advises.
Detailed information about these exceptions is available on the GOV.UK SIEL guidance page and the start page of the new service. These pages will be regularly updated as LITE continues to develop.
The ECJU intends to transition all SIEL applications off SPIRE in the coming months. Updates on how to make these specific types of applications will be communicated via Notices to Exporters.
For now, SPIRE remains operational for all non-SIEL applications.
‘SPIRE is still live and all non-SIEL applications should continue to be applied for on SPIRE, for the time being,’ the notice confirms.
