Seven EU parliaments call for new sanctions against Russia

Chairs of foreign affairs committees of seven EU parliaments have issued a joint statement on the need for further sanctions against Russia for its war against Ukraine.

The statement was signed by the Chairs of the foreign affairs committees of the parliaments of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Denmark. It details the arguments for the inadmissibility of Russia’s actions, including its gross violation of international law, immoral tactics, and the threat at the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP.

They call on the Euro-Atlantic community and its partners to urgently strengthen and implement comprehensive sanctions against the Russian Federation to stop the ability of the Russian army to continue its military aggression in Ukraine; increase military, financial, humanitarian, and diplomatic support to Ukraine, to unanimously support initiatives that condemn Russia’s military actions, isolate Russia in international and regional organisations, as well as take adopt equivalent decisions and establish equivalent sanctions against Belarus.

They also call on the EU member states and other Western allies to immediately suspend tourism and limit the issuance for tourist visas for citizens of the Russian Federation.
