Ex-Pratt & Whitney subsidiary ordered to pay debt after US engine maker exited Russia
A Moscow court has ordered the former Russian subsidiary of US aircraft engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney to pay over 2 million rubles ($22,000) in compensation to a leasing company following its exit from the Russian market in 2022.
The ruling requires Pratt & Whitney Vostok LLC to compensate ALD Automotive for early termination of lease agreements on three vehicles and return of leased property, according to documents reviewed by the official TASS news agency.
The defendant did not appear for the hearing despite being notified, TASS said.
ALD Automotive filed the lawsuit after Pratt & Whitney Vostok refused to pay compensation when terminating leases for three vehicles as it departed Russia.
Pratt & Whitney, which manufactures engines for F-16 and other US military and civilian aircraft, was among numerous Western companies that left Russia following its invasion of Ukraine three years ago this month.
