OFAC issues regulations for ‘Hostages and Wrongful Detention Sanctions’

The US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (‘OFAC’) announced it ‘is adopting a final rule adding regulations to implement a July 19, 2022, Executive order related to hostage-taking and wrongful detention of a United States national.’

It said Executive Order (EO) 14078 of July 19, 2022, ‘Bolstering Efforts To Bring Hostages and Wrongfully Detained United States Nationals Home,’ comes into force on 11 July.

The regulations call for targeted sanctions against persons found to be complicit in the wrongful detention of US nationals.
