State Department extends validity of two ITAR general licences
The US State Department’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (‘DDTC’) has extended the validity period of two open general licences issued as part of a pilot programme pursuant to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (‘ITAR’), 22 C.F.R. parts 120-130, § 120.22(b).
The open general licences were originally published on 13 July 2022, with a validity period of one year, effective 1 August 2022 through 31 July 2023.
‘DDTC has now extended the validity period of both open general licences by three years. This means that the licences will now be valid until July 31, 2026,’ the department announced on its website.
Non-substantive edits to both open general licences include revisions clarifying that multiple defence articles need not be reexported or retransferred simultaneously and that the open general licences can be used to reexport or retransfer a single defence article.
The open general license pilot program enables the export and temporary import of certain defence articles without requiring a specific licence.
DDTC said, ‘This helps to reduce the burden on companies and government agencies by reducing the need for individual licences for each export.’
