State Department seeks industry input on defence export controls reform
The US State Department’s defence trade advisory group will meet 4 December to discuss reforms to broker reporting requirements and reexport controls, according to a Federal Register notice dated 18 November.
The Defense Trade Advisory Group (‘DTAG’) will analyse alternative approaches to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (‘ITAR’) broker reporting and review policies affecting co-production and reexport of defence articles.
The Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (‘DDTC’) ‘requests that DTAG present an initial analysis for a multi-phased review of “Production Diplomacy,” focusing on barriers, inefficiencies, and opportunities in co-production, co-development, and sustainment of Defense Articles,’ the notice said.
The virtual meeting will also address improvements to DDTC’s FAQ guidance and examine ‘challenges faced by both U.S. and non-U.S. industries’ in obtaining reexport approvals.
Members of the private sector advisory committee, appointed by the Assistant Secretary for Political Military Affairs, have until 2 December to register for the session.
