Switzerland updates sanctions targeting five countries

Switzerland has expanded or modified sanctions targeting five countries in separate actions, according to announcements by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (‘SECO’).

In its latest move, SECO added 15 individuals to its Venezuela sanctions list and modified entries for 14 others in changes taking effect 5 February 2025.

SECO added one individual and four entities to its Iran sanctions list and updated the controlled goods list in its Iran sanctions ordinance on 17 January. The changes to annexes 1a and 6a took effect on 18 January.

The department updated its interpretative guidance for Ukraine-related sanctions on 16 January, with modifications shown in track changes.

Other actions saw SECO modify entries for four individuals under its Democratic Republic of Congo sanctions and add four individuals to its Sudan sanctions list, both effective 15 January.
