Ukraine declares sanctions on hundreds of entities in Russia and beyond
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky announced new sanctions against 40 individuals and 322 legal entities, targeting people and companies ‘who invest in and support Russian aggression’ against his country.
In an address, 22 April, he said the latest action targets 25 Russians – including oligarchs – and four others from Switzerland, Iran and Mali as well as companies or institutions in Belgium, Cyprus, France, Luxembourg and Malta.
He called the sanctions, ‘One of the key common tasks for all of us – absolutely everyone who seeks a faster end to the war, a faster victory for us.’
He said the aim was to ‘remove any opportunity for Russia to circumvent sanctions. Every Russian scheme that makes it possible to bypass sanctions makes this war longer,’ he declared.
On 15 April, Zelensky imposed sanctions on 438 individuals and 254 legal entities, including Russian athletes and IT companies.
