US targets entities, persons and vessels linked to Iran-Houthi oil shipments
The United States has announced fresh sanctions against ‘ten individuals, entities, and vessels, including tanker captains, in multiple jurisdictions that have engaged in the illicit transport of oil and other commodities, including for the network of Houthi financial facilitator Sa’id al-Jamal.’
This is the seventh round of sanctions targeting the network of Sa’id al-Jamal since October 2023, with Treasury saying it ‘underscores the U.S. government’s commitment to isolating and disrupting the financing of international terrorist groups such as the Houthis.’
Meanwhile, the State Department explained, ‘Houthi financial facilitator Sa’id al-Jamal continues to leverage an expansive support network to facilitate the illicit sale of commodities, including hiding the origin of cargo, forging shipping documents, and providing services to sanctioned vessels. The United States will continue to impose costs on those who seek to facilitate these illicit activities.’
The action targets entities and individuals based in the United Arab Emirates (‘UAE’), Oman, Yemen, Hong Kong, India, Turkey, together with two Panama-flagged crude oil tankers.
